There are cooking classes that take you to a kitchen and hand you a recipe card. This is not one of them.

Ayara's Thai cooking experience begins at the Kamala fresh market, where our chefs walk you through the ingredients that define Thai cuisine — galangal, kaffir lime leaves, bird's eye chillies, lemongrass, fresh coconut milk — explaining what each one does and how to identify the best. From there, you visit the chef's garden on the resort grounds, where home-grown herbs are harvested fresh for the class.

Then you cook. Properly. With technique, with flavour, with the kind of patience and knowledge that only comes from chefs who grew up eating this food.

The class ends with a private meal — just you and whoever you came with — eating what you made, in the place where you made it.


WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

Depending on the day's menu (changes seasonally), you may prepare:

  • Tom Kha Gai (coconut galangal soup)
  • Pad Thai with fresh prawns
  • Green or red curry from scratch — paste included
  • Som Tum (papaya salad)
  • Mango sticky rice

All dishes use fresh ingredients sourced that morning. No pre-made pastes. No shortcuts.

Thai Cooking Class Details:

  • Choose four dishes from our extensive varieties of Thai food that you would like to cook
  • Go to the Supermarket or local market (fixed days) with our Thai chef and have a look at authentic ingredients.
  • Return to the hotel restaurant, to have a welcome cocktail, and start cooking your own Thai meal amongst the ocean view!
  • Receive certificates for mini-course completion, along with pictures and recipe book to take home and cook for your friends and family.
  • Enjoy a ‘home-cooked’ late lunch/early dinner with your partner or your family!
